A Message From Walker SCM CEO Emmett Walker

Valley Stream, NY November 2, 2020 – 2020 has been a defining year, a historical moment, where the world is experiencing two major crises – the COVID-19 pandemic and race relations. Americans and people across the world have been awakened this year to the uncomfortable truth that racial disparities still exist in this modern world and people of color have endured centuries of inequality and prejudice. As an African American man, I’ve had the tough conversations with my daughters regarding the color of their skin and how it would impact them.

This is a moment in time that cannot dissipate and must continue to build momentum. As a minority and veteran owned company, I take pride that diversity is an inherent part of our foundation. However, I acknowledge that we must do more to strengthen our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Walker SCM is in the process of formalizing a diversity, equity and inclusion (“DE&I”) program where our focus will be on recruitment, training, professional development, supplier diversity, and facilitating open and continuous discussions throughout our organization. Our goal is to continually improve to be a company where all persons are welcomed in an equitable environment and where people of different backgrounds are respected and heard. We value diverse voices, thoughts and backgrounds and look forward to hearing from our workforce to create positive change within the company.

Change starts from within and our hope is that as we make changes and continue having open and honest conversations within our organization, that it will ignite reflection and change within ourselves, our homes and our communities.

In the words of Mother Teresa:
“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
